Fire me up!
The car door screeched, its painful protest echoed her anxiety. A job interview and a first date all within two hours seemed a bit much for a single mother her age, but her date-to-be had sounded so perfect on the phone.
Her eyes darted to the chain restaurant, the place where her destiny awaited. Already an hour late for their date, due to her interview that ran long, she hoped he wasn’t angry. She wasn’t sure that she could handle another crummy internet date like the attorney with mega-baggage and bad teeth, the prejudiced deputy, the guys who just wanted sex. She issued a silent prayer to whatever deity chose to listen. With a sweaty palm she slammed the door shut and smoothed out her purple trouser.
“I must be crazy,” she muttered as she headed towards the door.
After taking a deep breath to steady herself she opened the door and called her date to find out where he was sitting.
His husky male voice answered after the first ring. “I can see you, and if you turn left you can see me.”
Her pulse quickened and she fought the urge to drop the phone and run. Summoning the grace she developed as a child in ballet class, she turned on her four-inch heels and produced her most radiant smile.
The hello she had planned on issuing died on her lips when she laid eyes on him. His blue button-down shirt set off his sapphire eyes, and covered the broadest set of manly shoulders she had ever seen. He walked towards her, fluidly, gracefully. An athletic man in complete control of his body, and he greeted her with a warm, welcoming smile. Clearly waiting an hour hadn’t dulled his desire to see her.
That was it for me readers. Love at first sight. Honestly, I had fallen half in love with him on the phone, but seeing him that day. Seeing him was the clincher. And the first kiss? Legendary. Mr. Hot and I didn’t get our happily-ever-after, but we did get one hell of an incredible relationship and I’m a better woman, a better writer, because of it. You see, now I know that sparks are real, tangible by-products of chemistry and love, and it is my mission to make you feel every bit of the thrilling excitement, chaos, and calamity of a real romantic love between two moving characters. Stay tuned for updates!
